Personal Training and Rescue Boats

February 4, 2011 By James Hill

So I was up at 5am this morning… well, actually that is 5:20am as I pressed the snooze button twice – to head to a Personal Training session.

I am currently in the process of attaining my Personal Trainers certification and this is the first practical stage… which is basically observation. Watching a qualified PT do their thing.

So basically for my last couple of mentoring sessions I have been in a PT class being trained (they have been making me work hard – not much observing, lots of participating!)

This morning was at long reef out on the point. What a magic morning… even though I was running up hills, doing countless pushups, situps, squats, planks, half squats, squats up the stairs. This is after I rode the 10km to the training site.

Next session with with a one on one client. So I basically did the same activities they were doing… except harder and more of them.

I managed to sneak in another 30km of riding to and from sessions before the morning was out.

On the weekend I spent both days learning how to drive the IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat). 2 days of running boats up and down the beach, jumping in and out and pulling people into the boat. This was a massive work out. (we also pulled a few people out of the water who got caught in one of the nasty rips)
