The Turning Point

June 25, 2012 By James Hill

This probably wont mean anything to anyone one by me… as this is just a mark, a notch on the timeline of my life.

At what point do you say enough is enough, something has to change – whether it be a big thing or a little thing.

At what point do you turn a threat in your life into an opportunity. Turn the pain point into leveage to do something different rather than just put up with the status quo.

That point is today.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!

Back on the bike

June 18, 2012 By James Hill

It is cold out side – even the sun doesn’t seem to be getting up until about 7am. Though I shouldn’t complain too much – it is not snowing (or raining for a nice change).

I decided last night I was going to start riding into work again – namely because I bought an expensive light for the bike and need to off set the cost of it with the saving of riding the bike vs catching the ferry. Well – not really, but that coupled with the benefits of getting fit all add up to get me out cycling in the cold.

Did I mention it is cold outside – full finger gloves, jumper, leggings and about 10kg of work stuff in the paniers. It was a bit of a slow ride in today. I am using the excuse that I plan to ride in every day this week and don’t want to burn myself out.

Planning is under way for the wedding – more importantly the honeymoon. We-re planning on taking 2 months driving around Australia. Can’t wait. Had a quick look at HUGE map of Australia last night just before we went to bed. Sweet dreams of lazy mornings and not being part of the grind for a short while. Can’t wait.

Well… at work, so I should get back too it.

Holiday

May 1, 2012 By James Hill

Being an Australian means we are far from everything… For some of us it is a two day drive to the local corner shop. So when Gen and I set off to Phuket I was expecting to put in a few miles, but somehow the calculations didn’t add up to getting out of bed at 6am and getting back into bed 19 hours later in our lovely resort (after a very quiet drink).

My guess is the shear anticipation of being on holidays out ways any other sort of rational thoughts which otherwise might occur. Would I do it again if I had my time again… Absolutely!

They don’t have summer and winter here… It either rains in the afternoon or it doesn’t. The water is like a warm bath and it is not because of some fancy array of solar heating panels, it is just the way it is here. In fact I think the ocean is warmer than the pool.

Yesterday we hit Patong Beach… It wasn’t quite what Gen was expecting. It has that familiar dirty city smell, something which is pleasantly absent up north were we are staying. It reminded my of my first trip to Thailand. From that very first step off the plane it hits you, and I mean hits you. It is repugnant. But it is to be expected, this is part of the adventure of travel – especially when you are not traveling in 1st world countries.

We walked down the seedy night club strip – it was midday and still very, very quiet. Not even the hawkers who try to get you to come in for just one beer quiet had the energy to try and drag you in at this time.

It is hot and humid – worse walking around the town because the concrete pavement and the road just reflect the heat. Sunglasses are a must as it a bottle of water if you are just having a look around town.

So, the wedding dress (the reason we went to Patong) is on order (at less than a fraction of the price in Australia) – the tell will be when it is finished. I’m getting a few business shirts made, wide collar, French cuff in the material of my choosing… All for $50 a shirt. Money well spent? we’ll soon know in a day to two. I am quietly confident.

The food has been fantastic! Lunch yesterday at Patong Beach, breakfast, lunch and diner at the resort – all fantastic. Gen was especially excited about the pancakes yesterday which were pretty damn good.

Speaking of which – it is time for breakfast and then on to the spa for massaging.

In the beginning…

April 28, 2012 By James Hill

Time to get this blog thing going again… sort of like the online diary. 🙂

So… the current project is Fishing with Hillboy. This is well and truely underway…

The concept – taking the viewer fishing, literally. The idea is two fold, build the ultimate trailerable fishing boat and take the view out fishing on it. The second fold is to build the ultimate fishing resource – website.

I have built the frame work for the web-site and put up some initial articles in various categories. These categories / menus will cover 95% of the content which I intend to publish on trailer boat fishing.

The logo… the all important logo. I have had a crack to get the basic design of what I want in Paintbrush and aside from the fact it looks like a 2 year olds drawing – it is done (and on the website).

I have engaged Sarah and Lucy from lulaandbella.com to help me give it that profressional look. And they are good, so I have no doubts the finished product is going to be very sharp (despite my meddling).

I am hoping to have something up in 2-3 weeks.

Now – it is all about building the framework to sell this thing to sponsors. I am still debating on whether this should go through main stream TV or whether it is better to hit the online route. Maybe I should be doing both… which is an approach I do have the structure in place for already. Episodes on TV with additional supporting content on the web.

For example – doing a reno on the boat. Present the basics on the program – more detailed content online, that is more supporting videos, diagrams etc…

What is in it for me… I get to take people out doing two of the things I love the most. Fishing and Boating!

Happy Fishing,

Hillboy
