Roof Top Tent

October 2, 2012 By James Hill

It arrived today…

And it is beautiful, though it is not quite on top of the car yet.

OK – so I admit I can be a little impatient at times. 🙂

With the box open I had the tent all but set up on the drive way – which was great until the neighbours started to come home and I had to pack it all away again.

Gen loves it too – though it will need to be aired out as it has a bit of an overwhelming ‘new’ smell going on.

Can’t wait to get it on the roof and set up – alas it will have to wait until after the car gets back form the panel beaters.

Just need to get some lights and a small fan for inside – I figure the fan will be a necessity for traveling during the summer months.

Suites, boats and roof racks – a week in review

September 22, 2012 By James Hill

Saturday lunch time and I have just dropped Gen of in darling harbour so she can go hopping with her Mum.

I should mention we have spent the night on the boat and it was the wharf in Darling Harbour she disembarked.

I am now anchored up just behind manly bashing this out on my iPad… Where would the world be without Apple.

The sun is out and it has been a busy week setting up the car for our honeymoon around Australia.

The roof top tent should ship next week. Whoo hoo!!

Preparing to go around Australia

September 19, 2012 By James Hill

Gen and I are heading off… around Australia for our honeymoon and to say we are jumping out of our skin in anticipation would be a massive understatement.

We are kitting out the car for our big adventure. Man there is a lot of stuff you can kit your car out with!!!

It is a little unfortunate the time of it all – because it means we are going to miss out on a lot of the top end, Kakadu, Katherine… etc. It will be the wet season and most of the roads will be closed – work commitments mean we are limited to this time.

There is still a heap to see… and I will be posting regularly telling the tail of our adventures.

Back to the car – since we are pretty much planning on living out of the car for 2 months, we are going to invest in it a little bit. On the list…

Roof Top Tent – purchased and should be arriving any day now.
Fold-out awning with fly screen – on its way with the tent.
Roof Rack – picked up from Roosystems yesterday – strangely enough I brought it home on the existing roof rack.
Hi-lift jack – FREE with the roof rack – how good is that.
Tinted Windows – next on the list. It is going to be hot… so we’ll need all the protection form the head we can get.
Snorkel – Just incase we find any big puddles along the way. 🙂 (should be an wicked grin – because I will be looking for them!)
Fridge Freezer – I have had it for years in anticipation of this trip.
Dual Battery System – check!

I need to find some 12 volt fans as well – I have a feeling we are going to need everything we can get to stay cool. Might have to upgrade the deep-cycle battery as well.

… and this is just the start of the list!!!

I will get some picks up as soon as I have them

Boyz Stuff

August 12, 2012 By James Hill

I am sitting on the plane waiting to head off to Melbourne (surely I will get told to put the iPad aware for take off soon) for a week of playing with welders and building boats.

Had a follow up call from John on the way to the airport – and I must say, I have very high hopes for this week. Very excited.

As usual – my brain has gone into over drive with a million and one different ideas on buidling boats and a thousand other pipe dreams. But this is why I am off doing the course in the first place – right. 🙂

It was tough to leave Gen at home – I am going to miss her during this week. Luckily we live in the day of modern technology means we’ll chat at least once a day. I am sure her and the little kittens will have a great time whilst I am away. I think Gen already has dinner out planner for most nights of this coming week.

Gen’s brother Michael and his partner Alex have kindly put me up for the week at their place – big thanks guys.

Flying QANTAS to the cold city of Melbourne – at least I know I will get there alive. 😉
